SILKS

I always felt the images of the Tobacco netting, (tent cloth) belonged on a sheer fabric that would imitate the ethereal quality of the images. Chiffon provides that quality.  Some of the photographs were transferred using thermal transfer material; some were transferred using Dye Sublimation, a digital printing process that is now avaiable. This new process allows me to print on fabric at extremly large sizes.  After printing I hem the edges and stitch with silver thread areas of the image I want to highlight. The silver thread is usually very subtle but gives the piece a sculptural effect. By transferring the images onto the chiffon they become illusions of gossamer. Hopefully transporting the viewer to a tranquil place, a respite  from the hectic pace of life today.
